East Snyder Park 2010 Report
To All,

What has happened at East Snyder Park in 2010.  This is the short and sweet version if you need more details or would like to see the accomplishments please visit the park.

This year we were very fortunate to have the help of the probation court people provided by Judge Woelfel, Union/Snyder President Judge and Scott Kerstetter, Adult Probation Officer.  These men and women were required to serve community service.  This gave us a chance to touch 18 young peoples lives and hopefully this had a positive influenced on their lives and I know they are proud of what they accomplished.  They have also touched our lives and made it such a worthwhile experience.

Cookie and I dedicated our time, talents, equipment and along with the Penn Township Supervisors support almost every Thursday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM since March 2010 to create, repair and improve.  Following is a senerio of what has been accomplished, involving over 1100 man hours, mowers, mechanized seeders, paint sprayers, frontend loaders, augers, thatcher, yard rakes, aerators and hand tools:  How sweet it is!

5.   Outlined the foul lines from the infield to the outfield lines on field 1, 2 and 3 and backfilled with limestone screenings
6.   Excavated on both sides of the LL outfield fence and backfilled with limestone screenings
7.   Painted structures and installed vents in the three restrooms
8.   Prepared pollinator garden which involved starting from scratch adding topsoil, mulch, stone border with sandstone pebbles/cloth, build stone benches and planted.
9.   Replaced boards on the existing bleachers and painted several bleachers
10. Painted the existing block dugouts on the softball field (#3)
11. Fixed the drainage in several locations
12. Hung the shade sails in the spring and removed them in the fall
13. Cleaned up around all the inlets on the new fields
14. Winterized the park by moving picnic table under the pavilion
15. Rebuilt several tables and painted
16. Finished two 16 foot players benches for field number one
17. Installed yellow fence topper on sideline fences at LL field (#2)
18. Maintenance on walking paths
19. Refreshed soil and re-graded two softball fields (#1 & #3)
20. Repainted trash barrels
21. Rebuilt infield on LL field (#2)
22. Steffen softball field (#1) excavated and placed stone on right field side at players benches

It has been a very productive year at East Snyder Park as you can see by the information above.  There isn't a day goes by when we are at the park that we don't get a thank you or a complement on how well the park looks from mothers watching over their children playing at the playground, people at the playoff games both local and visiting teams and it makes us feel good.  This gives our area a place for recreation for all--families and older adults as well.  Hopefully we haven't forgot an item or person if we have please let us know.  We are so grateful for all the support and donations.  Looking forward to next year as the ESP continues to evolve as a prime regional recreation facility.

If this is something you would like to get involved with or know someone that would be willing to be an active board member please contact us.  We have three board vacancies at present as you see we are very active and making progress.  Give us a dollar, a donation or volunteer as you see we can s-t-r-e-t-c-h it a long way.

Wow what a year!  Go to www.eastsnyderpark.com and take a look, better yet visit the park and enjoy first hand.

Respectfully submitted,

Pete and Cookie DeWire,
Volunteers
