**Pollinator Garden activities for 2011**

1.  Involved the placement of 2 Solitary Bee Condos which provide nesting for bees in the 1/4 to 3/8 inch holes that are 5 to 7 inches deep.  The bees are sometimes referred to as Mason Bees since they place an eggs, pollen for food and seal off the nest with mud, then repeat this operation until they reach the hole opening.  The Bee eggs are dormant over the winter and are born in the spring of the following year and are active for 6 to 8 weeks

2.  Triangular mud puddle was placed to allow the Bees a source of mud.

3.  Three rock stacks were completed in the Pollinator Garden on April 21, 2011.  This project was only a dream until September of 2010 when the stones were collected at Central Builders sand quarry in Point Township, Northumberland County.  Drilling of the 100 stones with a diamond 1" bid began in November and was completed in early April 2011.  The steel 3/4" square bars 9', 8' an 7' were prepared and concreted into the ground.  After the concrete was cured the stones were placed, grouted and capped.  Ironically this was the fun part and the easiest task only involving about 3 hours from start to finish of the stacks.

Credit for this great addition goes to the following:

1.   Idea and follow through of a dream - Cookie DeWire
2.  Stones donated by Tony Markunas at Central Builders, Point Township
3.  Drill press loaned by Mark Johnson at ASP Services, Selinsgrove
4.  Drilling stone over a 6 month period by Pete
4.  Steel bars donated by Mark Johnson at ASP Services, Selinsgrove
5.  The concrete was donated by Shane Kerstetter at Quick Crete
6.  The sand and grout was donated by Jeremy Beaver, Selinsgrove
7.  The Holes dug by Carl, Megan and Joel completing community service at our park
8.  Also assistance with the installation by Carl who was completing community service

Note: Total cost of Stack Rock installation is the completion of a dream and the labor of love!
